Jean Wadleigh, 85, passed away on December 25th, 2015, at Mt. Ascutney Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born on August 21, 1930 in St. Johnsbury, VT, the daughter of Vere and Elizabeth (Kent) Goodell. She spent her childhood in Windsor, VT and married the love of her life, Frank
Wadleigh, in 1947. They shared 68 wonderful years together living in Claremont. Family and friends were Jeanʼs delight. She was a gracious host and family gatherings of 20 or more were common in their home. She cared for all of the grandchildren, nurturing each and every one.
Summers were spent at their camp on Lake Ossipee and many memories will be cherished of that time. Jean is survived by her husband, Frank; two daughters, Andrea Burke and her husband, Gary and Susan Matteson both of Brownsville, VT; five grandchildren, Kirk Lantas, Brent Lantas, Katie Willard, Emily Matteson-Weld and Molly Matteson as well as eight great grandchildren, Kori and Lane Lantas, Jack and Claire Willard, Alden and Nolan Weld, Matteson and Hannah Tenney; a sister-in-law, Ramona Wadleigh and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and sister, Gloria Densmore. The family wishes to thank those who cared for her during her illness- the CVHC Hospice nurses and Mount Ascutney Hospital.
Visiting hours will be held for 10 to 11 AM one hour prior to the service. A funeral service will be held at Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Wednesday, December 30th, at 11AM. Burial will follow in the West Claremont Burying Ground.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you share an act of kindness in her memory with someone in need.
