He was a charter member and first President of Sullivan County Humane Society.
He had a great love for all animals and had many of his own over the years.
In younger years he raced for Larry Stickney at Claremont Speedway and was top point car two years in a row in his class. Never underestimate Gene with a challenge. He also refereed school football games.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy (Willard) Fowler; his son, Kenny Fowler (Marsha); siblings, Albert Fowler, Midge Fowler, Russell Fowler (Ann-Marie), Linda Clark (Dick), Tommy Fowler (Jane), and Lydia Wadleigh (John); in-laws, Bill and Bev Flanagan; grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Theodore Fowler, Patricia Von Dreden and Carol Shute.
Gene was retired from DHMC where he worked in the power plant for many years and held a first-class power engineer license.
Many thanks to his doctors at Dartmouth for their care of Gene over the years, especially Dr. Brackett and Dr. Greenberg.
Many thanks to our friends and neighbors for their help during Gene’s decline.
A memorial service will be held at the Union Episcopal Church on Old Church Road on Thursday, October 11th at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Sullivan County Humane Society, P.O. Box 111, Claremont, NH 0374.
